This page is dedicated to Anne Sidsel Moss Shelton, a lifelong resident of Richmond, Virginia, who passed on June 10, 2024 at the age of 87. Anne was a cherished mother, dedicated community volunteer, and a beloved friend to many.
Born and raised in Richmond, Anne's life was a testament to her love for her community and her commitment to making it a better place for everyone. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and great aunt to many family members. Anne always put her family first and ensured they were surrounded by love and support. Anne was also a mischievous member of the Ya Ya sisterhood.
Anne's volunteer work was extensive and deeply impactful, often earning her the title of “Mayor.” She dedicated countless hours to Patrick Henry Elementary School, where she was known for her enthusiasm and unwavering support of the students and faculty. At Trinity, she was a beacon of kindness and service, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her efforts extended to Forest Hill Park, where she worked tirelessly to maintain its beauty and accessibility for all residents to enjoy. Anne was also an active member of her neighborhood associations, Westover and Forest Hills, constantly striving to create a strong and supportive community.
Her passion for sports was well known among her friends and family. She was often found cheering from the sidelines for not only her children, but also for her nieces and nephews, grandchildren and friends.
Anne's legacy is one of friendship, compassion, and dedication. She was a true friend to both young and old, always ready to offer a listening ear, a kind word, or a warm smile. Her presence in the lives of those who knew her was a blessing, and her absence will be deeply felt.
She is predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Lynn Shelton Buchanan, her parents John Timothy Moss and Viola Hoogensen Moss and her brother, John Timothy Moss Jr.. She is survived by her son, Elliott Clyde Shelton III (Chip), her grandsons, Logan and Andrew Buchanan; her uncle, James H Moss; aunt, Mary Lou Webber; and many extended family who will carry forward her values of kindness and community service.
Anne Shelton will be remembered for her love for her family and friends and her passion for her community. Her spirit and contributions will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
